May 2008 Hotline

The Oakdale Public Relations crew was on the road again Sunday, April 13 visiting the Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church (SAFMC) in Spring Arbor, Michigan. Students shared their stories of changed lives and new hope during the Sunday evening service. Many thanks to the Spring Arbor community for their warm reception of our students.

The crew of five students, along with staff members Annie Zeller and Erin Newton, then traveled to the Free Methodist World Ministries Center (WMC) in Indianapolis, Indiana on Monday, April 14 where they did a morning chapel presentation and then toured the WMC learning about the grand scope of Free Methodist Ministries at home and abroad. Students have not stopped talking about the great experience they had and all the incredible people they met. They began to really understand what it means to be a part of the Free Methodist Church and felt welcomed and loved by everyone they met!

Staff and students will be traveling to Free Methodist Annual Conferences throughout the summer months. Please pray for travel safety and open ears and hearts at each destination.

Students competed in the annual Oakdale Field Day events on Thursday, April 17. Competitions included sprinting events, a one mile run, softball, discus and shot put throws, chin-ups, and long and high jumps. New school records were set for some of the events while other records still hold from as long as 20 years ago! Individual awards will be given to first, second and third places for each event during the Award Assembly at the end of the school year.

Spring Board Meetings were held at Oakdale on Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19. We are grateful for the constant support that our board members provide for staff and students as well as their wise counsel. The Oakdale Board of Trustees meets each spring and fall.

D.C here we come! 12 seniors and four staff members piled into two minivans to "road-trip" to Washington D.C. April 20 - 26. Students went to the Smithsonian, Holocaust Museum, Arlington Cemetary, hiked the five mile loop of monuments at night, "ate their way around the world" with stops in China Town and other various ethnic restaurants, attended a theatrical performance of C.S Lewis' Screw Tape Letters and enjoyed a Nationals baseball game. The schedule was jam-packed with great sights, learning and tons of fun!
